Available Services

School

School Only: Students enrolled in The Good School who only come during school hours will pay the Regular Hourly Rate. School-Only Students may come 5 days or 3 days a week. Students who come for individual class periods (for example, a homeschool student coming for just Science) will pay the Drop In Rate according to our fee schedule.

If your child is with us during School hours, they will automatically be included in our private school program, which meets the requirements of equivalent instruction for the State of Maine.

A child attending The Good School does not need to be enrolled in any other school to receive state credit for academic attendance.

Childcare

In addition to regular childcare, we also offer a range of other services that are currently not available from any other providers in our area.

‘A La Carte’ Services are available to the public, not just our regular clients.

If you have not registered with us before, you must plan for 30 minutes on arrival to complete the intake process.

  • Before Care, After Care, Nights, Weekends. Accommodating parents with swing shifts, double shifts, weekend shifts, on call shifts. If you are an on-call employee and you register with us in advance, you do not need to pay the Drop-In Rate for short notice. You just need to get us your call schedule in advance and you may pay the Extended Hours Rate.

  • COMING SOON! Please submit an application to let us know you are interested in this service, and we will let you know as soon as it is available!

Your regular provider calls in sick, takes a vacation week, needs a personal day, or just doesn’t show up. Your child is out of school but there’s still a week til camp starts! What do you do? Call The Good School for backup care! If you schedule backup care in advance and commit to at least one week, you may pay the Regular or Extended Hours Rates, as applicable.

Need a babysitter for date night? Need to run some errands uninterrupted? Just need some peace and quiet while you put your feet up? Drop In Hours to the rescue! Available to anyone in the community.

Drop In Hourly Rate will be charged to anyone booking less than 6 hours of care on the same day, unless using a full day of Backup Care or a Sick Day.

We are excited to offer Sick Day coverage. How many times have you had to miss a day of work because your little one had the flu?

How many times have you sent them to school, when they really should have stayed home, but you just couldn’t miss work? Ever feel guilty knowing they’re probably still contagious and miserable, but their symptoms have subsided enough that they can ‘probably make it’?

We are so aware of the dilemma posed by unpredictable illness. It’s bad enough you have to take work off when you’re the one who’s sick— what about days when you’re perfectly fine and need to get things done?

We have created an infirmary environment complete with social distancing, masks, sanitizer, and dimmed lights. The lead teacher is a Registered Nurse, and they will have enough trained assistants with them to meet the number of children on a given day.

We have worked with the Office of Child and Family Services to comply with all necessary health regulations so that we can offer this service in a safe and sensitive manner.

Trade-In Hours

Do you ever wish you had a mom friend with the same schedule as you, and kids the same age as yours, and enough energy to trade you for babysitting? Now you do!

You don’t have to worry about who’s house to do it at, or if her kids are going to spill juice all over your carpet.

You can bring one child with you and volunteer for a number of hours, in trade for future childcare hours. Additional children may come at half price. Tasks required will depend on the needs of the program during the time you are there.

1 Volunteer Hour = 1 Free Childcare Hour for 1 Child

Volunteer hours must be completed before the credit may be used toward childcare.

Volunteers must pass a background check, be certified in CPR and First Aid, complete a six-hour online training module, and spend two hours with us in training and orientation. In addition to these requirements, volunteers shall only participate in tasks for which they are legitimately qualified to perform to the standard of any Good School employee.

Volunteer hours must be scheduled at least one week in advance. The first time a shift is missed, it will result in a three month suspension from the Trade-In program.
